Reverse engineering as a creative tool in the design process

The proposed teaching innovation consists of incorporating the 3D scanning process as a creative resource for first-year product design students, linked to the subject of vector representation.

The following tasks have been carried out:

  1. Model making
  2. Scanning from a portable structured light machine
  3. Point cloud/mesh preparation
  4. Post processing with mesh editor
  5. Opening in modeller
  6. Configuration of a new object
  7. Obtaining STL models for 3D printing
