In preparation for the Mae West event we were asked to design a trophy to award the designers of the best project of that year in each branch. This task was to be done working as a team between first, second and third year product design.

The main objective was to make 4 trophies inspired by Valhalla that represented the specialty to which they were to be awarded.

At the beginning, research was done to better understand the Viking culture and their way of life. The base concept was defined and we settled in trying to transmit the group behavior that the Vikings had. We proceeded to make some designs and with the guidance of our third year product design classmates, the trophy design was finalized and polished.

The trophy was closed to a full size Viking shield with a metal rim; and from there each group would make changes and build their own unique piece from that base. Our group had to design the interior design trophy, and we decided to play with shadows by using overlapping sheets of metal that were attached to a wooden rim, which included the handle, and closing it all off to the metal rim that would encapsulate the entire piece.

The overlapping sheets would be left in a bright polished finish, unlike the rim, which would retain the factory black color. As for the wood finish, we chose pine and decided to burn it, to get a nice brown color and also get a lot of texture from the wood grain.

In the end we got a trophy that represents the ideas that was born to show, and that with a combination of all the knowledge of the group we were able to get the great final result that we got.

At the same time that the shield was being developed we had to design and produce a support that would fit and present the four trophies in the final thermae, so we got down to work. Taking into account our budget and the amount of space, weight and the final mission the stand would play, we designed a stand constructed of pine wood, a great material for construction, fairly inexpensive, and giving a professional end result that would resemble what the Vikings might have done in their time.

The wood was cut, assembled, sanded, stained and varnished before it was finished. This whole process ensured a great end result that the team would be proud of. The stand also had to hold last year's trophies, so we also designed a place for them in the final piece.

And in the end the whole process, and all the work prior to the production of both the trophy and the stand was to ensure the best quality of the results and to represent as faithfully as possible all the values that Esada represents and all the values that the project needed us to show.
