"It does not interfere with the space: it transforms it and opens it up to new uses."
A suspended net transforms an unused space into a place of rest and encounter. This furniture invites one to pause, to disconnect from the academic rhythm and reconnect with oneself or others. It is an accessible and permanent space that offers rest, flexibility and connection between people and disciplines.
A place designed to stop, share, and simply be.
Context
The inner courtyard of the school, although it is used on a daily basis, remains without a defined use. It is a wasted space with potential to become a point of pause, relationship and recovery within the demanding academic life of the design students.
Problem Detected
In the school there is no real space for relaxation. The intense academic pace generates stress and exhaustion, but there are no adequate areas where students can disconnect or relax.
In addition, there are few opportunities for spontaneous and creative encounters between students from different areas.
The inner courtyard, although it has potential, lacks identity and is not actively used. This evidences the need for an intervention that is respectful of the environment, easy to execute and at a reduced cost.
Project Objective
To design a resting system that transforms the structural void of the courtyard into a livable experience, without blocking the circulations or intervening in an invasive way. The objective is to offer a place of pause that activates the space through a minimal, soft and shared intervention.
Proposal
A suspended net that turns air into surface and emptiness into possibility.
A soft furniture that invites to lie down, disconnect, converse or simply be.
The structure is anchored to the existing points of the courtyard, without altering its architecture, and is made with analog techniques, accessible materials and limited budget.
