DISEÑO DE UN JUGUETE

When it came to designing a wooden toy, María Py Balcázar, a 1st year Product Design student, thought that the image projected in her mind was something old-fashioned and tedious, so she thought it was essential to change her own perspective on this material, based on play and fun.

Trying to avoid from the beginning that his toy would become one of those to be admired and not used, he has tried to use, in this wood, forms more in line with our time. To this end, the research of current toy lines, and the observation of children playing has been essential.

For her proposal Maria has designed a curved board to exercise balance, transformable into several toys at the same time. It consists of different interchangeable pieces, which give it versatility and transform a simple toy into a world of possibilities.

Its main piece is a curved board of laminated wood, with seven perforations that cross it transversely, where the different pieces can be attached. It also consists of two wooden strips with a perforation in the center, ready to be attached to the main board through screws and nuts suitable for children's use, and at the ends of which are located two wheels. It also has two handles/curved backrest, in the shape of a hollow oval, whose attachment to the main board will be through the same type of fastening mentioned above.

In its first position, with the ends upwards, the curve of the board offers different levels of difficulty to stay on top by swinging from one side to the other. When turned upside down, with the ends facing the ground, the wheels are placed at the ends of the concave side, and the handles at the top or convex side, thus becoming a vehicle or motor-driven walkway runner. In this position, several can be hooked together by means of fixed eyebolts placed on the front and rear lines, in order to form a sort of train.
