Relax en movimiento: Pukuna

For this project, RELAX IN MOTION, the students had the task of redesigning urban furniture, taking into account technology and the problems of living in a big city. The pace of life is getting faster, leisure and rest times are shorter, and efficiency and productivity have become more important, making it necessary for everyday products to increase our comfort and quality of life.

The existence of beggars and vagrants on the streets of cities is a phenomenon with a long historical reach, but the modern typology of the "transient" or "homeless" person has its antecedents. or "homeless" person has its antecedents in the American "hobbos", those men who went from city to city building the US railroad, more than a century ago. The speed of technological and social changes has also had its correlate in the change of the people we meet in the street, sleeping, begging... Nowadays we have another type of reality much more complex: women, young people, single-parent families, with drug addiction problems, affective, mental, physical illness, labor immigrants...

In the face of all this, Maria's conclusion is that the steps to protect this group were to strengthen their physical and mental health through quality rest, personal hygiene areas, and job training through inclusive practices, in which they would gain the feeling of being useful and belonging to society. To be respected, to be listened to, to feel worthy of decent conditions, to have the support of society.

Although the problem is so deep that it is beyond the scope of this project, Maria collaborates in improving an important aspect of their situation by focusing her design on rest and a sense of security. To this end, she designs an individual, portable tent, with a mat included in its structure, inflatable, easy to use and safe.
