Idyllic Graffiti

Laura Candón Galán

1ºBA Graphic Design
Graffiti Idílico

The use of Graffiti as an artistic resource, is a tool that much of the Spanish culture sees as a doodle with the sole purpose of dirtying the wall. However, our first year graphic design students face not only the challenge of demonstrating the value of a good Graffiti, but also to show society that it is another art technique.

In this course, the first year students have made a graphic proposal for the Centro Concertado Juan XVIII Cartuja-Granada. This center, founded in 1964, promotes itself as a center that "imparts values, education and training. They forge the future and create School". It has a large wall on which it has proposed to ESADA students to make a Graffiti that shows the values of the Center.

Laura Candón's proposal:

And that is precisely what our first year student Laura Candón Galán has done. She has represented the respect and gratitude towards nature as an essential value for a proposal where nature and strong colors stand out, as the main claim to draw attention and incite the reflection of the students of the center. Nature, as Laura indicates,"It is something that the earth itself has given us for free and selflessly, which sometimes (and especially the younger ones) we forget that we have".

Graffiti of authors such as the Dimitrov brothers, Andra Popovici or Rodrigo Cordero, have inspired our young graphic designer for the realization of her Graffiti. Proposal that takes us graphically through different natures, from the bottom of the sea to the savannah or the desert, through a jungle or a forest, has been the main rest of this student due to the complexity of merging so different states of nature in one.

Meaning of Graffiti:

Laura has taught us a great lesson...a Graffiti is not a mere random scribble as an act of vandalism, but a work of art carried out by design professionals, who configure from an empty space, a new space with cultural, ideological or even political connotations. The author gives the best of himself as a communicator of an image so that the viewer gets a reading that makes him reflect on a specific theme...

And the fact is that, at the end of the day, every piece of art is a little piece of soul with which its author gives us a gift.
